“PLAY BALL !”

- More than Just a Slogan at Guelph Minor Baseball Association -

by Richard Moccia

Guelph Minor Baseball Association (GMBA) has a long and proud history of player development and fun in one of the world's greatest games.  Beginning with the 1928 Provincial title of the Junior-A Guelph Whippets, to the most recent 2003 Ontario Gold Medal for the Triple-A Midget Royals, GMBA teams have taken home their fair share of championship hardware.  And our teams haven't stopped at the provincial boundary either.  National Gold and Bronze titles to our Midget and Pee Wee teams in 1994 and 2000 respectively, demonstrate that our local talent can be national calibre as well.  Not surprisingly, GMBA teams have also won numerous Inter-County championships, which brings together city teams from the nearby regions of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Brantford, Stratford, Paris and Woodstock.

Over the many decades of organized baseball in Ontario, Guelph teams have steadily improved and remain competitive against squads from much larger cities and regional centres across the province.  This is a tribute the hard work of players, coaches, parents, umpires, and the many administrative volunteers who support the Guelph Minor Baseball Association.  Player development is an ongoing commitment of GMBA, which provides various levels of house league and representative team play for players between the ages of 5–19.  No matter what level of play, the excitement of playoffs is just as real – whether vying for national gold, or a house league T-ball title !

Have a  look back at our many successes over the years, and feel proud of the many and varied accomplishments of the teams that call themselves the Guelph Royals.  PLAY BALL !
