GMBA is always looking for people who are willing to Umpire. Without Umpires the young people CANNOT play!

Current and former Players, Parents, Grandparents, and Fans all make good Umpires with a little bit of training. Umpires must be at least 10 years of age (Minor Mosquito) to become a GMBA Umpire. Adults are welcome. All umpires must renew or upgrade qualifications each year.

Umpiring is a lot of fun and it gives you a sense of accomplishment.   Don't worry that you may not know all the rules…we teach you all about it. At GMBA, we train Umpires to the official Ontario Baseball Association standards.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in training for the upcoming season, please contact our Umpire in Chief by email.

Dress Code
Guelph umpires are expected to dress appropriately. The uniform includes:

Grey Pants (no shorts or sweat pants)

Navy umpire shirt

Black or navy baseball/umpire cap (no logo other than OBA logo is acceptable)

Black shoes (if you have them, running shoes if necessary for House League games)

One umpire should have a watch to keep time

Please tuck your shirt in and wear your cap with the bill forward at all times.

Teamwork
You and your partner are a team, both on and off the diamond. Be positive at all times. If you are watching a game from the stands, or playing, do not discuss the umpire's decisions in a negative way. Support your fellow umpires! If you are a first year umpire, try to attend a couple of games at different levels to get a feel for how the umpires handle the game.

Equipment
The GMBA provides a face mask, chest protector and shin guards for your use during the season with a $150 deposit. Take care of this equipment, don't forget it at the diamond and keep it clean. You are responsible for replacing this equipment if you lose it or abuse it in any way.

Watch here for more information on returning equipment. Your cheque will be returned when you turn in your equipment.
